The mission of the immaculate virgin mount Loretto is a NOT for profit 501 (C) 3 agency. Affiliated with catholic charities the archdiocese of NEW York. MIV was founded in 1871 by father john C. DRUMGOOLE AS a home for some of the thousands of homeless and orphaned children WHO lived on the streets of the NEW York city after the great potato famine and then the civil WAR. Today. The mission directs its many services to a full array of Staten island residents. OUR services include early childhood DAY care and universal PRE K. Afterschool and summer programs for special needs children (autism spectrum. Down’s syndrome and NON ambulatory). Residential and vocational programs for developmentally challenged youth and adults. We Also serve AS host to several island based social services for families in crisis, a food pantry. Hurricane sandy relief and Senior citizen programs AS well AS the CYO/MIV Gymnasium and community center.
